Past Events Over the last few years we have hosted and attended many events, click on the yellow tabs on the left for details and pictures of some of them. Assembly Christmas Party Everyone over 50 is welcome but please book a place as the room has a maximum capacity and we need to know numbers for the catering. Join us for a Christmas Buffet and meet up with old friends and new ones. £1 entry fee to include refreshments.
11th Annual General Meeting The Assembly's 11th AGM took place on Saturday 6th October 2012, in Bewicks Restaurant at Gateshead Civic Centre. It was also the 10th Anniversary of the Forum/Assembly, and the theme this year was Community Safety. The Speakers were Chief Superintendent Neil Adamson from Northumbria Police, and Group Manager Dave Jefferson from Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue, who gave interesting and informative talks followed by a question and answer session. Everyone enjoyed the buffet lunch followed by a short drama performed by Little Cats Theatre group about Safeguarding, which was followed by a presentation by Carole Paz-Uceira and Cathryn Meredith from the Gateshead Safeguarding Team. The day rounded off with musical entertainment from JC McKay and a prize raffle.

Photography Project The Photographers' Gallery have sent us information about a project which may be of interest. It is called Old New Borrowed Blue, and is an online photography gallery encouraging people across the generations and especially older people to upload their favourite wedding photograph and accompanying story, and to browse through the online album of wedding photographs and stories displayed on the website. Each photograph submitted is displayed by decade, from the mid-19th century, when photography was invented, until the present day. Frocks, flowers and cakes are all be on show, plus special moments whether happy, unusual or solemn. You can see the gallery and some of the photos and stories already contributed here, where you can upload your own picture or just look at the ones already added.
Financial Planning Seminar We held a Financial Planning Seminar in association with the Newcastle Building Society, on 16th June from 11am to 12.30, at the Assembly offices in Felling. Those who attended enjoyed the morning, and there was some interesting information available.
First East Area Branch Assembly Meeting This was held on Wednesday 15th June from 12.30pm to 1.30 pm at Hertfordshire House Community Centre, Rothbury Avenue, Pelaw. Over 30 people attended the meeting to hear guest speaker Irene Storey from NEXUS, and have their say about local bus transport in the east of Gateshead.
Community Safety Event in Gateshead We held a Community Safety Event at St Joseph's Church Hall, Gateshead Interchange, on Monday 23rd May. It was a drop in event for anyone over 50, and featured stalls from many organisations. Over 80 older people joined us for information and lunch.
Talking about Tobacco Control in Gateshead A focus group was held on Friday 13th May 2011 from 10-30 to 12-30. Staff from The Gateshead Smokefree Alliance met with a group of older people to hear their views on: Illegal tobacco in your community Stopping Smoking Second-hand Smoke and how it affects you and your family It is hoped this information will help them to understand which messages are important and how to get the information across to people. Open Meeting at Hertfordshire House To discuss local issues and setting up of an East Branch Assembly. The meeting was a great success, with over 30 local people joining us to discuss older people's issues.
Comic Relief Fundraiser This was held on Saturday 19th March 2011, at Wesley Memorial Church Hall. 10am to 1pm.
Coffee and Computers Drop in Sessions Venue: Gateshead Older People's Assembly, Felling These sessions proved very popular, taking place every other Friday.
Healthy Heritage Walks
All walks were very gentle over about 2 miles and last around 2 hours from start to finish, including frequent information stops.
My Generation This took place on Saturday 22nd January 2011 at St. Joseph's Hall, opposite the Interchange Centre. It featured young people from Gateshead Youth Assembly, The Little Cats Theatre Group, and staff from Beamish Museum. There were dancers, poetry recitals and a selection of stalls. There was also a free buffet lunch provided.
Pie and Pea Fundraiser
On Monday 15th February 2010, Generations Together Volunteer Coordinator Rachel Norman organised a Pie and Pea Fundriaser to help raise funds for The Duke of Edinburgh Award expeditions, based at Brandling Community Hall, Church Place, Felling. Activities included bingo, raffles, tombola, learning to text sessions and Nintendo Wii Fun. The event raised over £500.
Silver Tea Dance
We were honoured to be able to hold the closing event for The Looking Forward Festival 2009 at Bewicks Restaurant at Gateshead Civic Centre on 29th October.
Antiques Road Show
As part of The Looking Forward Festival we held an Antiques 'Style' Road Show at Gateshead Heritage@ St Marys on Thursday 22nd October 09.
