About Gateshead Older People's Assembly In 1999 Age Concern conducted a feasibility study to look at setting up an Older People's Forum. A steering group of 10 to 12 older people was set up and began exploring the most appropriate way to represent older people. The group met on a regular basis to look at the issues affecting older people in Gateshead. In 2002 we became an independent organisation known as Gateshead Forum for Older People, with financial support from Help the Aged. In 2007 at the request of Gateshead Council we became an Assembly which is a great achievement and testament to the hard work of our volunteers. Aims and Objectives of Gateshead Older People's Assembly Our Aims are: a) To listen to and represent the views of older people in Gateshead.
